AS Nancy President, Jacques Rousselot, has said that despite the club teetering on the brink of relegation, the club still has a chance to rise to the challenge and fight to secure Ligue 1 status for the next season. Rousselot was talking ahead of his side’s
game against league leaders, LOSC Lille.
Nancy suffered two defeats and drew three games in April – a poor run of results that has literally pushed the club from 14th place in the league standings to the dreaded relegation zone (18th place and 38 points). However, Monsieur
Rousselot believes that the players in the side have the mettle to pull themselves out of such a tight spot. With just five games left to play in the season, Nancy have a real chance of pulling clear of the relegation zone if they make a good start to the
month of May.
Rousselot believes that being in the relegation zone is a cause for concern and panic, however, he maintains that his side can get out of the dreaded zone in the five remaining games. Last Saturday, Nancy lost 1-0 away to Sochaux. Though it was three points
dropped, Nancy were unlucky not to get at least a point out of that game largely due to a stellar performance from Sochaux keeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Teddy-Richert-c34753.
In the first game of Nancy’s last five remaining games, they will come across LOSC Lille in a game that could be a season defining one for both sides. After an inconsistent month of April, Lille finally got the right result when they beat Arles-Avignon 5-0
at home on Saturday to regain the top spot in the league standings. On the other hand, a defeat at the hands of Nancy will leave them with four games to avoid relegation.
While talking to the media, Rousselot said, "Some of those matches won't be easy, like the one against Lille, but after the match against Sochaux, where we played really well but unfortunately lost we have spoken amongst ourselves. I told the squad and the
coach that we have to maintain the strong frame of mind we showed in that match, we have to keep the faith and play out of our skins to go after the five or six points that we need to assure our Ligue 1 survival."
However, Lille might not be the only big hurdle in Nancy’s path towards avoiding the drop. After playing Lille, Pablo Correa’s men will face an in-form Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes. The trip to Paris will be followed by a game against Stade Rennais
at Route de Lorient. In the last game of the season, AS Nancy they will host 19th placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RC-Lens-c40322, a game that would surely be a relegation fight for both sides.
