AS Roma closing in on Lucho Gonzalez of Olympique de Marseille – Ligue 1 news
According to reports in French media, Italian Serie A giants AS Roma are closing in on a deal with Argentine international Lucho Gonzalez who is currently under contract at French Ligue 1 side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127.
The 30-year-old Argentine has been linked with a move away from the Stade Velodrome for a long time. However, Les Phoceens want to recoup a good part of the 18 million Euros they paid to sign him from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 in 2009.
Lucho Gonzalez impressed in Marseille’s 5-4 victory over LOSC Lille in the Trophee des Champions clash game at Tangiers but it now appears that the influential playmaker might have played his last game for the 2009/2010 Ligue 1 champions.
The Buenos Aires midfielder is currently in talks with AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 over a possible transfer to the Roman side according to French sports daily L’Equipe. Reports suggest that an agreement would be reached in the next few hours.
With Marseille looking to reduce the burden on their payroll, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Heinze-c14310 had already seen his contract terminated. Though coach Didier Deschamps does not want to part with El Comandante, the French tactician knows that the club’s financial situation
does not allow it to have the luxury of signing big name players any more.
A fee in the region of 10 million Euros is believed to be enough to land the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/River-Plate-c40368 man who has been an integral part of the Marseille side since his arrival to the Rhone side in 2009.
Initially, Gonzalez was touted for a move to La Liga side Malaga but the Andalucíans were reluctant to meet Marseille’s asking price for the player. Gonzalez was also linked with moves to Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Bundesliga side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881.
Lucho Gonzalez has made 68 league appearances for Les Phoceens during his two-year stay at the club. The departure of the South American would definitely leave a huge gap in the Marseille midfield that coach Didier Deschamps would be looking to fill before
the start of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 campaign.
