AS Roma coach Vincenzo Montella pleased with win against US Leece – Serie A news
AS Roma manager Vincenzo Montella is pleased with his side’s 2-1 win against US Lecce at the Stadio Via del Mare on Friday, 4 March, 2011.
The Italian is happy with Roma’s progress and believes the Giallorossi are moving forward on the right track.
Roma beat Lecce courtesy a late winner from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mirko-Vucinic-c26024 opened the scoring in the match in the 32nd minute with Lecce captain Guillermo Giacomazzi
scoring the equaliser in the 75th minute. The visitors were awarded a penalty four minutes from time when Gianni Munari handled the ball in the box which Pizarro converted with no qualms whatsoever.
Montella said he was impressed by his side’s dominating performance against the Lecce side. The Italian believed that Roma put in a strong display but held the ball for too long. He said that they played defensively in the second-half after an attacking
first period and that was why they were able to put less pressure on the Lecce midfield which eventually led to the equaliser.
The former Roma forward added that his side deserved the victory as they were clearly the better of the two sides in terms of the quality they showed on the pitch.
“We sat back a bit too much in the second half, putting less pressure on their midfield, then there was the incident that led to Lecce’s goal. The fact remains our hunger won out and we deserved the victory, as in terms of quality and overall performance
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 did better than Lecce,” the manager was quoted as saying.
But the Italian said that Roma still have to improve on their performances if they want to be in the UEFA Champions League next season and insisted that the Giallorossi are on the right track.
“That is why the fact we pushed through and even won it at the 90th minute can be a real turning point. We’re on the right track, but can still do much better,” Montella said.
Vincenzo Montella was appointed as the caretaker manager for Roma in February 2011 after Claudio Ranieri resigned following a series of poor results. The Italian is yet to concede defeat as the Roma manager winning two of the three matches he has been in
charge. The wins have come away from home against Bologna and Lecce.
Roma currently sit sixth on the Serie A table with 46 points and are 12 behind the League leaders AC Milan. The Giallorossi are only two points behind http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 who occupy the UEFA Champions League qualification spot, having played a game more.
