AS Roma in no hurry to sign http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 star Lucho Gonzalez
Since the start of the summer transfer window earlier this June, Argentine international Lucho Gonzalez has been linked with a move away from Stade Velodrome.
Olympique de Marseille’s financial situation is forcing the club to reduce the burden on the payroll and in order to reduce the wage bill, Les Phoceens have already let go of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Heinze-c14310, who was reportedly earning 4.5 million Euros per year at the Rhone
club.
Lucho Gonzalez was brought to the club in the summer of 2009 from Portuguese giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 for a fee believed to be in the region of 18 million Euros. In 2010/11 Ligue 1 season, the former FC Porto player was able to score 8 goals and assisted in another
4 in his 36 appearances.
The 30-year old Buenos Aires-born midfielder, who is nearing the twilight of his career, can’t be risked with a long term contract. However, Marseille are not willing to let go of the South American for a cheap price.
The Italian Serie A giants AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 have shown interest in the Argentine midfielder only as a secondary option. If AS Roma are unable to acquire their primary targets, only then would they consider making a move for Gonzalez. Other clubs who have raised their
hands for Gonzalez are the 2008/09 Bundesliga winners, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881, Turkish Super Lig giants, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.
A few weeks earlier, the Argentine international’s agent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Julio-c19950 Battaglia revealed VfL Wolfsburg’s interest in the player saying, “Lucho would like to play in the Bundesliga. I offered him to VfL Wolfsburg two times.”
The Phocéens coach Didier Deschamps, in an interview to Rhone daily La Provence, said, “It’s a delicate subject. I want him to stay at the club but the economic situation of the club comes first. If he does leave, I will not start looking for a direct replacement.”
With two weeks left in the transfer window and the 2011/12 season rapidly approaching, the Buenos Aires-born footballer, known as “El Comandante”, has been left in limbo by his club.
With his future still not sorted out, it appears that Olympique de Marseille might be forced to keep their star player for next season if the club direction is not willing to lower down their asking price for the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/River-Plate-c40368 man.
