AS Roma keen to acquire AFC Ajax’s Maarten Stekelenburg – Dutch Eredivisie news
Ajax Amsterdam’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maarten-Stekelenburg-c22998 has aroused interest from a host of elite European clubs with his supreme performances in the goal at Amsterdam Arena in the recently concluded season.
AS Roma have remained the favourites to land his signature in the ongoing summer transfer market as they have remained consistent with their interest in the highly-rated gloves man.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper is a product of the Amsterdammers’ renowned youth academy and started his career at Amsterdam Arena in the 2002/03 season. The Dutch International, however, seeks a move away from his current club for pastures greener.
The highly-rated gloves man has remained heavily linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal FC, Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, Juventus FC and Liverpool FC.
However, Stekelenburg’s agent earlier mooted all speculations and revealed that none of the aforementioned clubs have contacted him or the club to acquire the 28-year-old’s services.
With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 the only interested club in acquiring the shot-stopper’s signature, it seems likely that the Dutch International would be pursuing his career at Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
The Amsterdammers are looking for an amount in the region of 12 million Euros for their goalkeeper, but the Serie A outfit have so far offered 7 million Euros for the Dutch International. Reports now suggest that an offer in the region of 10 million Euros
could be enough to lure the highly-rated goalkeeper away from Amsterdam Arena in the ongoing summer transfer market.
The Dutch International’s current contract with the Amsterdammers runs until the summer of 2012 and it seems unlikely that the goalkeeper would be putting pen to a contract extension, having set his sight on a move away.
Adding to the interest in the goalkeeper, Atletico Madrid are now in search of a new goalkeeper following David de Gea’s transfer to Manchester United earlier today. Reports suggest that they see Stekelenburg as the successor to the 20-year-old.
Roma will have to act quickly to tie down the Dutch International or risk losing one of the best goalkeepers in the world to other ambitious clubs.
