AS Roma’s Christmas Wish List - Part 2
Read the first Part http://www.senore.com/AS-Romas-Christmas-Wish-List-Part-1-a48288.
Midfield
This is the area where Roma are probably the strongest and have a good pair of David Pizzaro and Daniele De Rossi. The duo forms a great and formidable partnership and regards each other well.
So far this season, Claudio Ranieri has preferred a 4-3-1-2 formation. New summer signing, Fabio Simplicio has found his feet in Rome and is the 3rd available central midfielder. He has had some impressive performances to his name.
Rumours have it that Matteo Brighi might be moving to Napoli but these rumours have been rubbished by the player's agent. It has also been suggested that Roma might be making an offer for Bayern Munich’s Andreas Ottl in the January transfer window.
Having said that, it seems that the midfield is pretty much stable and there might not be any changes in the January transfer window.
Attack
This is the area where Roma will be looking to improve a lot.
Brazilian duo, Adriano and Julio Baptista are already being linked to other clubs with the former not settling in the Roma squad after joining the team this summer and Baptista apparently frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities.
The ‘Beast’ will most certainly make a switch after it was suggested earlier this week that Spanish side, Malaga are ready to offer €8 million for the Brazilian and to relieve him from his Roma nightmare. This transfer, if it materializes, will help fund
the rumoured transfer of Madjid Bougherra from Rangers.
Marco Boriello was loaned out to Roma before the start of the season and the Milan loanee might not be returning to his parent club after an injury to Pippo Inzaghi has almost confirmed him of regular game time, something the Italian might not be getting
at Milan.
The Brazilian duo is almost on the way out but another forward, Kevin Gamiero, who plays for Lorient in the French Ligue1, could be a good option for Claudio Ranieri.
Cote D’Ivoire striker, Lacina Traore, who plays for CFR Cluj in Belgium, has also been linked with the Roman giants and at 6’8”, the Ivorians’ strength and height will make him an imposing presence in the Roman attacking side. Burdisso will know more about
the Ivorian, who gave him a tough time when Roma played Cluj in the group stages of the Champions League in September.
Liverpool man, Dirk Kuyt has been rumoured to be linked with A.S. Roma but it will be a tough job to lure the Dutchman away from Anfield where he has been a vital part of the starting line-up although, Roma might be able to buy Kuyt if they use French defender,
Phillipe Mexes as a bait to make a swap for the former PSV Eindhoven man.
The Dutch international is versatile and has a great work ethic. His ability to play as a central striker or in the wide area might help in giving the ageing Francesco Totti a more direct role to bring out the best from his finesse. The signing of Kuyt might
also help Totti to go back in the ‘Trequartista’, a role that he performed excellently during his time in Roma.
This might be a bit tough for Jeremy Menez though, who has seen himself play in front of Totti and Borriello this season but Ranieri is called the ‘Tinkerman’ for a reason as he knows how to rotate his squad and will ensure that the French whizz gets ample
playing time.
Roma are already showing signs of exhaustion and their inconsistencies in Europe and in Serie A might be devastating if they do not bring in reinforcements to facilitate the players who have already played the first half of this season.
Let's see who will be playing for Lupi when the transfer window opens this January.
