Reports claim that AS Saint-Etienne rejected an offer worth 12 million Euros for 17-year-old centre-back Kurt Zouma who has been a revelation for Les Verts this season
When one loves, one does not count. This is exactly the kind of relationship Ligue 1 side AS Saint-Etienne have with young centre-back Kurt Zouma. The 17-year-old was offered a professional contract by ASSE when he was just 16 and since then, Zouma has been
a revelation to say the least for the Rhone club.
Already in his young career, the defender has scored two goals in 16 Ligue 1 appearances. The youngster has a great future ahead of him and it is natural that he is attracting so much interest from all quarters of European football.
As a result, Les Verts have decided to keep a barbed wire around the player which in the civilised world is called a release clause. Reports claim that the release clause has been set at 25 million Euros which could go up in a few years time.
France Football today reveals that Les Verts refused an offer of 12 million Euros for the player this January from English Premier League side Manchester City. The Citizens have been monitoring Zouma’s progress for a long time and are keen on having him
aboard.
The residents of Stade Geoffroy-Guichard are keen on holding on to a player who might leave anyway after a few years if he keeps on developing.
However, the owners see the future of the club in Zouma and are unwilling to yield at this point of time.
His agent, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Venditelli is also keen on keeping the player at the club at least for some time.
At this point of time, Zouma is very much exposed to offers from various clubs and ASSE would be hard-pressed to keep hold of the teenager.
Zouma joined ASSE youth academy in 2009 and played for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 in the 2011 FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
The youngster made his debut on August 31, 2011 in a Coupe de la Ligue match against Bordeaux. His older brother, Lionel, is also a centre-back and plays for fellow Ligue 1 outfit FC Sochaux Montbéliard.
