The French player on-loan from Sporting Lisbon has not been in overwhelming form for Les Verts and the club management might not consider securing a permanent move for the former Liverpool man
With four goals in 20 games, French striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle has not really performed at the level one can expect of the striker. The 27-year-old is currently on loan at AS Saint-Etienne from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon.
Les Verts have the option to buy the striker at the end of his loan deal for 3.5 million Euros. However, for the Rhone club’s coach Christophe Galtier, the striker’s performances have not been good enough. The tactician says that the player has a profile
of an attacking scorer.
Furthermore, if one adds the player’s constant injuries and suspension along with a certain disdain for basic drills and fluctuating mentality, the picture is not rosy at all for the striker.
The Etienne leaders feel whether there is any sense in signing a player whose performance levels go up and down so regularly.
Though the transfer amount is not too much, the policymakers at the club might prohibit sanctioning a move such as this especially Roland Romeyer, the club’s CEO.
“Even if we are satisfied with the 3.5 million Euros, it is still far from done. There is not fire in this case. Now, if we did not intend to keep him, we would not have entered into negotiations with him,” says the club CEO.
Certainly there is a reason for Pongolle to hope that he could be playing for Les Verts next season. However, it is his performances that will give a more clear picture about his future at the club.

a pay cut, the striker needs to show more efficiency in front of goal if he really wants to partner Aubameyang in front of the goal next season or not.
