Despite failing to qualify for the Europa League, Les Verts have enhanced their reputation after a 7th place finish in Ligue 1
AS Saint-Etienne are the most successful club in French football history. The residents of Stade Geoffroy-Guichard have won the Championelle a record ten times. In addition to that, the Stephanois have won six Coupe de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 titles and five Trophee des
champions.
However, ASSE have not enjoyed the best of times in recent years. Following their return to Ligue 1 in 2004/2005 season, Les Verts have had mixed seasons in the top flight of French football. A 5th place finish in the 2007/2008 season was followed
by the club finishing 17th in the next two campaigns.
Recently, under the tutelage of Christophe Galtier, AS Saint-Etienne have progressed a lot in a short span of time. A 10th place finish in 2010/2011 season was followed up by a 7th place finish in recently concluded 2011/2012 campaign.
Strings of strong performances in the last couple of seasons have definitely enhanced the reputation of Rhone giants. In the last season, Christophe Galtier’s men have performed relatively better and their offensive and defensive statistics have improved
considerably.
As compared to 2010/2011 season, Les Verts performed admirably better in the 2011/2012 season. The Greens managed to finish the season eight points higher than last season. A 7th place finish that saw ASSE narrowly miss out on Europa League was
three places better than their 10th place finish in 2010/2011 campaign.
Many eyebrows were raised when AS Saint-Etienne appointed Christophe Galtier as the head coach of the club. The Frenchman was formerly working as assistant coach to Alain Perrin. After the sacking of Alain Perrin, Christophe Galtier, a former France international,
was promoted to the managerial position at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
Not many were expecting that the Frenchman will guide the club forward as they did not view him as the right man for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684. However, after two successful years with the Rhone giants, the former Marseille manager has won over his critics.
The work of Christophe Galtier is finally paying off and to the fans delight; Les Verts are slowly but in a commanding way going in the right direction.
