AS Saint-Etienne keeping tabs on Tulio de Melo of LOSC Lille – Ligue 1 news
According to reports in French media, reigning Ligue 1 champions LOSC Lille striker, Tulio de Melo is attracting considerable interest from Ligue 1 side AS Saint-Etienne.
The Rhone club is looking to bring a striker to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard before the end of the summer transfer window and consider Tulio de Melo as an important addition to the squad. The club have already sine Florent Sinama-Pongolle from Portuguese
giants Sporting CP and are now looking to sign another striker who could pair up with the Frenchman.
Les Verts have recently signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steed-Malbranque-c33957 from English Premier League side Sunderland and also signed defender Jean-Pascal Mignot from AJ Auxerre. However, the club is in need of a good striker who can pair up with Pongolle.
26-year-old Tulio de Melo is a product of the Atletico http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mineiro-c25967 youth academy and joined French side Le Mans in the summer of 2005. After making 72 appearances and scoring 22 goals for MUC 72, the Brazilian signed for Italian Serie A side Palermo.
However, things did not work out really well for the striker and he joined Lille in 2008. Since then, the Brazilian has made 57 league appearances for Les Dogues and has scored 12 goals. De Melo was an integral part of the Lille side that won its first Championelle
in 54 years last season.
With Lille set to feature in the UEFA Champions League next season, it seems that Saint-Etienne might not be able to sign the Brazilian as Rudi Garcia would not be looking to let go of any of his main players this summer.
Meanwhile, new ASSE signing, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AJ-Auxerre-c38247.
While talking to the media, the Yonne native said, “It is clear that this (ASSE) is a great sporting challenge. The coach called me. Saint-Etienne is not just any other club. I want to achieve good things at the club.”
