Ligue 1 side AS Saint-Etienne are considering recruiting experienced right-back Lars Jacobsen as Christophe Galtier looks to increase the strength of his side.
A serious injury to Loic Perrin has already ruled the Frenchman out for most part of the first half of the 2011/2012 campaign. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Albin-Ebondo-c4350 is also a long-term casualty while Loris Nery is suspended. With three defenders out for some time, Galtier’s defensive
options are limited to say the least.
The Frenchman is now considering using the ‘medical joker card’ option of signing a free agent. Reports in French media suggest that the French tactician is considering making an offer to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denmark-c2884 international Lars Jacobsen who is currently a free agent.
The 31-year-old played for English side West Ham United in the 2010/2011 campaign as the Hammers were relegated to the English Championship. The experienced right-back definitely has an impressive list of clubs on his CV.
Jacobsen has had stints in the Bundesliga with HSV Hamburger and Nurnberg. However, since 2008, the Odense-born Dane has been in the Premier League where his form has never made him an integral part of the teams he has played for.
Last season, the Dane made 24 appearances for West Ham and his performances never really impressed as West Ham were deemed to relegation after a woeful campaign.
Reports now suggest that Galtier is willing to offer the Dane a chance to get his career back on track as the Les Verts boss looks to provide some cover to an injured defensive unit. Galtier has an option of bringing a new defender if his club is short on
players through injuries.
Though Jacobsen has not been in great form for the past three seasons, his international experience after representing the Danish national side 44 times could prove valuable for Galtier’s men.
Les Verts are currently in ninth place in the Ligue 1 standings with seven points from five games. next week, AS Saint-Etienne will travel to Lorient to face http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Lorient-c39153 and Galtier would be hopeful of completing the signing of Jacobsen by the end of this
week.
