  1. I drive truck and sometimes you get some strange directions if you call because you have not been there before, I fire up mapquest and it's been real good except for only one time, it wanted me to take 13'6" under a 12'3" overpass.

  2. my hubby's got one, hes tried it out tonight, and he got to his destination, he said he would never of done it without it, it was out in the country, it was dark ,he was a bit dubious, at first but was really pleased he had it,he says he would still be out there, trying to find the place.so he gives it the thumbs up. not sure i would, ha ha.

  3. its actualy quite good altho I dont have it if you are going somewhere you dont kno 4get the map and looking thru that just enter details into the sat nav and your away.

  4. Never had one, don't think I would ever need one, been able to find my way for 30 years without one, seen them in use, can't quite see the value. Seems like a novelty to me, an expensive toy that doesn't bring anything to the table.

  5. I let the wife drive, she has the brain of a pigeon and the homing instincts....ouch!.

  6. i drive an hgv and dont use one as you can not trust them

  7. Very useful though some knowledge of the route is advisable (from a road atlas) to prevent "shortest route" taking you through too many back lanes

  8. I drive every day (32years) I have one in the van but I rarely use it. I still use roadmaps. I think they'd be a useful aid but from my point of view i wouldn't miss it .

If they can plot position and record time, how long before they are used to record speed?

  9. As a driver of 25 years I usually have a fair idea of where I'm going, so I don't have one.

  10. Been driving LGVs for 15+yrs, satnavs are useful upto a point but your first reference should be a good atlas. The cheaper satnavs don't give height, weight or width restrictions, the more expensive units can supply some restriction information but they charge a subscription.

Satnavs are not a problem for HGVS/LGVS if you use common sense, read the signs and stick to main roads! It is usually foreigners and idiots that blame their satnavs but what you have to remember the satnav is not the driver!

  11. As I drive regular known routes I dont use it. Many people complain it gives poor/ wrong routes. Will be good in a few years time when all the bugs are sorted out and it gives 100% accuracy and does not direct lorries down narrow back streets.

Sold as a status symbol to car drivers.
