ASP and KwaDukuza municipality inks deal to confirm Mr Price Pro Ballito until 2014
The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Prime event Mr Price Pro Ballito has been confirmed until 2014 following a three-year deal between KwaDukuza municipality and ASP International.
Delivering a heavy dose of surfing action consistently for the last three years, the event has become immensely popular with the surfers and fans alike. Each year, the field at the primary event site becomes populated with some of the most exciting and skilled
surfers from around the globe to treat the South Africans and thousands of fans around the globe to some of the most thrilling surfing battles.
Noticing the growing strength and popularity of Mr Price Pro Ballito, ASP and KwaDukuza municipality have inked a three-year deal, much to the joy of the surfers and fans.
Commenting on the deal, ASP Africa Operations Manager Colin Fitch said, “ASP Africa is both honoured and proud to be associated with an event like the Mr Price Pro Ballito. Based on the fact that we had more than seven days of perfect surf that was never
under three meters in 2011, I am convinced that we will see many more of the world’s top surfers fighting for a place in this year’s 96 man field.”
The winner of Mr Price Pro Ballito last year Patrick Gudauskas from California regarded the event as one of the best that he had ever competed in or watched. Calling the conditions flawless, he conceded that he along with his fellow surfers had loved to
surf in the perfect waves at Ballito and considered the experience as unforgettable.
Hawaii’s John John Florence, Mr. Price Pro Ballito runner-up and 2011 ASP World Tour rookie, went as far as saying that he found the barrels at Ballito pretty similar to the ones that he surfs back home at Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii. While he admitted that
the barrels were slightly more challenging than the ones that he was used to, he still felt comfortable with them and was looking forward to riding them again.
Mr Price Pro Ballito offers some valuable ASP World Tour rating points, giving them an opportunity to climb the ranking ladder and getting closer to their goal of competing in the ASP World Title series.
