I'm recruiting a girl into the Army and she told me that she got a 17 on the ASVAB. I never really knew how scoring for the ASVAB worked so can someone please tell me if that score is good or bad so I know what to tell her? she would like to be an MP for her MOS.

thanks in advance!

  1. i think ur friend may need a helmet

  2. with a 17 she cannot enlist.  she needs, at minimum a 31 for Army if she has a High School Diploma.  she needs a 50 if all she has is a GED.  the other branches require a higher ASVAB score.

you get 15 points just for filling out your name....

  3. um i took the asvab and 17 isn't a passing score. "The Army requires a minimum AFQT Score of 31 to qualify for enlistment. However, in recent months, the Army has been approving more and more waivers for those with scores as low as 26 (Category IVA). To qualify for certain enlistment incentives, such as enlistment bonuses, an Army recruit must score a minimum of 50."

  4. Wow, 17 is a very low score on the asvab.  I took the test with someone through the Marines and he got a 16, and he just wanted to go infantry. That score alone couldnt even get him into the Marine Corps. I would recommend that person pick up an asvab study guide to help. One can usually find them at a local book store, actually used one myself to raise my score of a certain subject. hope that helps you...

  5. I think there might be a misunderstanding or the person has serious education problems.

I have met people that scored in the mid-20's before. They had difficulty with simple math such as: 40 out of 100 is what percent.

A 17 would indicate that they do not know English and do not understand basic math such as addition and subtraction.

  6. a mental r****d (no offense) can get higher then a 17- I believe you misunderstood what she told you or maybe she doesnt understand her score correctly. its not graded on a typical scale going from 1 to a 100. I doubt she got a 17 probably just lost in translation- ask her if you can see her test results form

  7. 17? Seriously? That is below every threshold allowed... I think you may prefer to seek another candidate... it's not just about getting promoted, but about providing quality candidates for your Recruiter... she isn't.

    These are the minimums...

    Service Branch

    Required AFQT Score*

    Army

    31

    Navy

    35

    Marines

    32

    Air Force

    36

    Coast Guard

    36

Note the lowest is the Army, psycho.

  8. 17 is a very low score, you need to make sure she graduated high school. If you want her to join as an MP she will probably need a much higher score. Get her a study guide, make sure she does it and get her to re-test. You can only take the test once per 6 months, so make it count.

  9. A 17 is pretty rough.  Maybe you should send her to the Marines.

  10. 17 You get a 17 just for filling out your name!

    Is your friend a Rock!!

    She needs some serious help!!

  11. In the Recruiter's office, it has already been stated that she is as dumb as a box of rocks.

She has no chance of being an MP with that score. She would be hard pressed to be a mess kit repair person.................

  12. my husband dropped out of high school then later enlisted. He scored a 58 that's high for dropouts but is only average for everyone else. His brother just finished his junior year in High School and scored in the 80s. They don't technically look at ASVAB score they look at the scores within that. They look at your general scores in each category. But she cant enlist with 17 passing is 32 we believe.
