Question:

AT&T's dataconnect plan

I'm looking to subscribe to a plan that gives you wireless internet through a USB Laptop card anywhere. I use AT&T's phone service, so they were the first ones I checked out. First, the "domestic included data limit" means availible MB to download a month, right? If so, I would pay the $60/month for 5 GB, and there is no extra charge if you use more. However, their terms state that they have the right to add additional fees if you go over. Do they usually do that?

(and) Is there a better plan through somebody else?

All I would like is unlimited data through a USB card... just like a cable or DSL would work.

  1. Well, you might take a look at T-Mobile, if they cover your area.

The broadband card is some slower BUT it is unlimited data!  The thing I liked about them is anywhere there is a TMobile hot spot, you can use WIFI and it is fast!  I started using them when I found that if I used WiFi on my phone (anywhere I could connect) then no minutes were charged for my phone!  I have wifi at home and office so all the calls are free when I am there!  If I am on the road all calls are free from TMobile hot spots as well.

As far as internet connectivity, its fast enough for me when I am not on wifi but it is slower than AT&T.. I think the trade off in 5GB vs unlimited is worth the slower system (it will be faster next year I am told!)  I have a Blackberrry and the browser isn't all that good, but when used as a modem it certainly has been good at least everywhere I have tried it. (I do understand T Mobiles coverage can be a factor but it hasn't been with the places I go!)

Verizon is the other option but the bandwidth thing comes into play once again. I think AT&T and TMobile are the main choices at the present (at least for me) and I liked the free phone calls with TMobile!
