AT&T Internet with Vista Home Premium?

I am trying to set up AT&T DSL internet on my wife's computer. It is a newer dell, about 2 years old, with Vista Home Premium. They have already sent me two modems saying that they were bad, now they are saying it is a problem with the computer, the problem is that it cannot communicate with the modem, a Siemons Speedstream 4100, I have tried everything, has anyone else had problems connecting using Vista? Thanks for any help, and please do not tell me to restart my modem!

  1. It's possible the problem  is with your network card.

Which OS your using has nothing to do with it.  I've set up my Vista Home Premium with DSL internet back before we switched to cable on numerous occasions.

  2. Are you using the ethernet connection or the USB plug?

Can AT&T see the modem on their network?  Does the AT&T installation cd fail with an error or does it just not do it's job of connecting the laptop to the internet?

Make sure your Dell laptop has all the current drivers from the Dell support site.

(The 4100 apparently does NOT come with a USB port, per the user documentation on Siemens website.)  The 4200 model has both USB and ethernet.

  3. You have to connect the wire to your computer and connect it. You might have to ask a computer expert cause i don't know a lot about computers lol. And also you need a network connection. You should be able to choose if it is a buisness or work computer.
