  1. A UVerse box can receive signals via either COAX (normal TV cable) or Ethernet.  It has both types of connections.  In the case of COAX it gets an IP based feed using HPNA.

Note that a UVerse box uses IP based signals to get the TV data (the same way your computer gets information from the internet.)  They do not have any traditional tuners, and can not get a signal from an antenna, “normal” cable service, etc on the COAX connection.  That means that you can not, for example, record shows off an antenna on the UVerse DVR.

A typical UVerse installation will use the existing COAX cable located in your house.  So there is a good chance that there will not need to be any additional cabling.   (If the COAX doesn’t test well, they sometimes run CAT 5 cable… but it sounds like this is unusual.)

Bonus trick…  Do you know that if you have a UVerse box connected via COAX, you can connect a computer or game box up to the Ethernet port on the box to connect to the UVerse internet service.   Handy if you have a UVerse box in a room that has trouble connecting via Wi-Fi (like a basement.) or a playstation (etc) that you want to connect to the internet.
