  1. Yes, you got ripped off, BIG TIME.

Your first mistake was going with AT&T Wireless.  You're second mistake was falling for the phone insurance trap.

Call the insurance back first thing in the morning.  Ask to speak to a supervisor regarding your claim.  Explain to him/her that your phone was returned & now you no longer need to follow through with the insurance claim to replace the phone.  The supervisor can cancel the claim at this time.  Make sure to be polite about the situation or they'll tune you out & you'll be stuck with the claim, plus the stupid co-pay.

After you're done with the insurace department, call AT&T Wireless & CANCEL the insurance immediately.  You don't need it.  The replacement phone you would've received will NOT be brand new.  It'll be REFURBISHED.  Which means, something was wrong with the phone & now it's fixed.  AND you hope works properly.  I've had a refurbed phone & NEVER EVER will get one again.  I'd rather spend the money on a brand new one, same or different make/model.

Find out when your contract expires, then plan to take your phone number to a better carrier.  Verizon Wireless is THE best, coverage, minutes, data, etc.  Unless you need it to chirp your family/friends, which is hugely annoying no matter how many are being used these days, avoid Sprint like the plague.

T-Mobile is another rotten company like AT&T Wireless.   They started out as VoiceStream Wireless, then changed to T-Mobile when Catherine Zeta-Jones became their spokesmodel & they switched their network to all 3G.

I've had Verizon since it was Airtouch Cellular, then tried Sprint, AT&T Wireless & T-Mobile.   I kept returning to Verizon.  Better phones, better network, better quality, better overall.

  2. makes sense -pay the fee and return the phone.
