AT&T National will not feature Webb Simpson
It is no good news for the fans, Webb Simpson will not be seen at this year’s AT&T National.
Tiger Woods organised this event to gather support for the Tiger Woods Foundation.
Tiger Woods Foundation was formed by Woods and his father Earl, the sole aim of the foundation is to create and support programs that will, in future, benefit the children of America. The Foundation basically works on health, education and welfare of the
children.
The foundation has other programs as well, to raise funds for their programs. Events such as Tiger Woods Learning Centre, Chevron World Challenge, AT&T National and Tiger jam are held for this purpose.
All these events help raise the funds so that the quality of life for poor children of America can be enhanced.
To raise the funds, it is extremely necessary for the organizers to convince the big names in golf to come and participate in the events. This will attract more sponsors and in return more funds can be generated.
The list of participants was announced on Friday, and it had quite famous names in it. It included the last four out of five champions.
This year’s event will be played, again, on the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.
Some big name players to miss out are: Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson. Surely it would have been a big morale booster for the organisers if players of such class were appearing on the field.
However, everybody has their own personnel reasons and their privacy should be respected.
Webb Simpson is missing the event because of the birth of his second child, expected in late July.
He has already signalled that he may be skipping The Open Championship as well, so that he can stay home with his wife. Simpson loves his family and it his family, not golf, which gets the first priority.
Nevertheless, there will be some renowned players participating in the event. They are: Hunter Mahan, Louis Oosthuizen, who won the 2010 Open Championship, Adam Scott and Jim Furyk.
All of them will compete for the $6.5 million prize money. The tournament is a lucrative one. Surely, the competition would be tough and healthy.
