  1. Atheism is just not believing in a god. Nothing more. So atheists might have different ideas about how the universe started, there's not a general belief about it all.

Although a lot of the time, atheists do believe in the big bang theory, and the theory of evolution.

  2. Atheists aren't really supposed to 'believe' anything. It kind of defeats the purpose of being atheist in the first place. So atheists dont agree.

But I know that wasnt the kind of answer you were looking for, so I recommend google or something- there are thousands of pages about the different theories of the Origin of the Universe.

  3. I think if you narrow yourself to exclude non-atheists, then you would be missing out on a lot of intelligent sources of evolution and the big bang. The Big Bang was first suggested by a Catholic priest. Both the Big Bang and Evolution are supported by the Catholic Church, as well as most other mainstream churches. That is a lot of non-atheists right there.

If you want to learn about Evolution and the Big Bang, then a good site is www.talkorigins.org, see specific links below.

    .

Good luck, and remember, religion and evolution are not mutually exclusive - anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to stop you accepting evidence.

    .

  4. Evolution: http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary...

    Big Bang: http://www.umich.edu/~gs265/bigbang.htm

These are not atheistic theories, they are rational scientific explanations of the universe that are correct as far as we know.  There are lots of christians who believe in both of them, in fact the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences is 40% christian, that's over 50,000 christian scientists who believe in both theories.

  5. Atheists don't all believe the same thing about how the universe started.  (There are almost certainly some who don't believe the universe started at all, but rather believe that it has always been here).  So it is impossible to answer your question.  You can ask an atheist what he personally believes, but as for asking what atheists in general believe, there's simply no answer to such a question.

  6. It sounds like you're looking for a contrast between your Christian knowledge and the opposing beliefs of these ideas you've stated. Honestly, this is not the best place to explore these facts.

Being a christian, you may find it more educational going to a local Christan book store, as there are many authors that have gotten in to this in great detail, or even going to a local church and asking for a knowledgeable CHRISTIAN in these matters, not a knowledgeable atheist.

I could suggest one resource: http://www.karlcoke.com/  Check out his book "A Proper Education". He deals with a lot of these issues and is very clear in his facts.

  7. haha i always think of Dane Cook

when i hear the word atheist

  8. Fallacy of the false comparison.

The only belief atheist have in common is no belief in " magic men. "

  9. Well, first of all, the idea of the Big Bang was first postulated by a Catholic Priest and second, Natural Selection was proposed by a man who was studying to be an Anglican Minister.

    Science does not require atheism.

  10. Atheists are not necessarily experts in how the universe started and evolution. If that's what you want to know, you should ask scientists or people who have a working knowledge of science. They might include religious folk, too.

If you want to know about how the universe doesn't seem to have any Gods or supernatural activity, then try asking atheists. If you want to read an eye opening introduction to atheism, try "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins.

  11. In general, religion or lack of it has no bearing on what people think about the origin of the universe, the evolution of life, or the baking of bread.

The only exceptions are certain scriptural literalists who deny scientific knowledge. So if you want to learn, go to the appropriate places and ask about the Big Bang theory, cosmology, evolution, or whatever, and leave the atheists out of it. You will get better answers if you research things yourself first, and then ask, one question at a time, about the things you don't understand.

And remember that knowledge is a lifelong pursuit. You are not going to get all the answers at 14, or 114; and every answer will raise more questions.

  12. I can't help you with all your needs, however, if you want to read good quality material on evolution, secretsauce's answers are very good. He (I think it's a he) is not an atheist, but does emphatically accept naturalistic (ie non-guided) evolution. If you go to his profile (there's a link to his profile in mine) you'll find he's answered most questions most people would ask about evolution quite eloquently.

    Hope that helps.
