Question:

ATM Fees in England?

I'm going to England for 3 weeks. How much are the ATM fees going to be? I'm already on a tight budget and $5 per transaction is a bit pricey for me. My bank is a small local one, not a national bank. I leave Saturday, so I can't get another account right now.

  1. If you go to an ATM attached to a bank, or run by one, then they won't charge you, especially if you're using something like as Mastercard.

  2. You need to check with your bank if you can use your card internationally & what fees they will charge you.  It's not fees for using the ATM you need to worry about, you also need to take into account the exchange rate & how much your bank will charge you to withdraw money abroad.

  3. No fees from any bank machines in the UK. Private ones in garages may charge you.

  4. most of the ATM's don't charge a fee for using them, but there are some ATM's in shops, service stations (gas stations) that have private ATM's that charge for using them, typically something like £1.50 ... if there is a charge for using the ATM it will be displayed prominently on the screen so look first and make sure it's a free one ... usually ATM's outside banks and places like supermarkets are the free ones

however your own bank might well make a charge for withdrawals or commission on foreign exchange ... you should be able to get details from your bank

you would need to check that your bank card is usable in the UK ... Visa is very common
