I will be traveling to Rome Italy soon. I am wondering if I will need a 4 digit or 6 digit pin in order to access my debit account to withdraw money.

  1. use the same pin that you usually use at home

  2. Use the pin that you use in the States but make sure you call your bank because some banks do not allow overseas withdrawls.

  3. I have been to Rome a few times in the past few years. I have never had to change my PIN, but I do let the bank know I am going. One thing to note, is in Europe you don't have the choice of Chequing or Savings. Make sure your card is linked to a chequing account or you won't have access to your money.

  4. It depends on your bank. With some banks you need a new pin for international transactions and with some you use the same pin.

Call your bank and ask them at least a few weeks before your trip.

Make sure you do this because some banks will freeze your account if you don't notify them before making international transactions, and you don't want to have to deal with fixing that from Rome.

They should have a toll free 1-800 number on the back of your card.
