ATP Cincinnati Masters 2010: Tuesday’s Match Reviews
Wimbledon’s runners up Tomas Berdych won his second round match of the ATP Cincinnati Masters 2010 after defeating French opponent Paul-Henri Mathieu in a total of two sets on Tuesday. The final match score was 6-4 and 6-4.
On the other hand, Ivan Ljubicic, Gael Monfils and Mikhail Youzhny failed to win their matches and on Tuesday and as a result, suffered early exits from the Cincinnati Masters 2010.
16th seed Monfils was the biggest upset on Tuesday as he was eliminated comfortably by 67th ranked Alejandro Falla from Colombia in a time of 70 minutes. The final match score was 6-3 and 6-4.
Youzhny on the other hand also couldn’t win his match against Richard Gasquet who defeated him in a total of three sets. The final match score was 2-6, 6-4 and 6-1. Veteran tennis ace Ljubicic was outclassed in a total of two sets against David Nalbandian as well with a final match score of 7-5 and 6-0.
Marcos Baghdatis is the only the second player along with Tomas Berdych who have confirmed their spots in the third round of the ATP Cincinnati Masters on Tuesday after defeating Thomaz Bellucci in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7/4).
In other action on Tuesday, Ernests Gulbis advanced into the second round of the Cincinnati Masters with a victory over Donald Young. The final match score was 7-6(5) and 6-4.
American tennis ace Donald started the match quite well. However, Gulbis immediately came back strongly in the game. The match remained competitive during the first set however Gulbis won the set in the end. The win gave him a lot of confidence which is why Gulbis went on to win the next set comfortably.
Mardy Fish on the other hand, defeated Gilles Simon in his Tuesday’s encounter in Cincinnati with a final match score was 7-6(4), 7-5.
Frenchmen Gilles Simon as well as Mardy Fish from the United States of America embarked on a ace spree in their match. Altogether, the players fired a total of eighteen aces, ten from Simon and eight from Fish. The American however won the set in the end after grabbing the final three points of the game.
Fish as a result of this victory will face 8th seeded Fernando Verdasco in his second round match of the ATP Cincinnati Masters Men’s tennis tournament.
Eight of the world's top ten tennis players are participating at the ATP Cincinnati Masters tennis tournament in order to prepare prior to the final Grand Slam competition of the season, the United States Open tournament, starting from the 30th of August in the city of New York.
Rafael Nadal will play his opening match of the competition on Wednesday against Taylor Dent. Federer on the other hand will play against Denis Istomin in his first match of the competition today. The Uzbek in his first round match defeated James Blake in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-3 6-0.
The fourth seeded Andy Murray, who is currently ranked number four in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals, will meet Jeremy Chardy in his second round match. The French tennis ace defeated Florian Mayer in his first round battle in a total of two sets with the final match score at 6-2, 7-6 (7/4).
