ATP Power Ranking points; Roger Federer tops Rafael Nadal and others in 2010 – Part One
The Barclays World Tour Finals in London brought the climax to the tennis year that majority of the lovers wished for. And so, there will be just a single story in the tennis headlines for the remaining of 2010.
With apologies to the Serbian team who won their maiden Davis Cup title, it appears to be the Federer and Nadal show from now until the next major event in Melbourne.
One or other of them has topped the ATP rankings from the past seven seasons and have opened clear water of more than three thousand points between themselves and the following three players on the tour.
The Swiss tennis maestro, Roger Federer, as a result of winning the elite eight man field title after getting the better of world number one Rafael Nadal in the finals last month now leads the top ten players with his power ranking points of 1787.
Bettor.com, takes a look at the top ten players on the ATP tour in terms of their power ranking points;
1. Roger Federer with power ranking points of 1,787
Last four competitions; Barclays World Tour Finals, Paris, Basel and Stockholm.
Current ATP ranking; Number two
The sixteen-time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer, after suffering a quarterfinal exit at the grass court Grand Slam tournament in London bounced back on the tour with renewed fitness. His decision of hiring Paul Annacone as his coach worked wonders for
him as Federer played high quality tennis during the last four months of the season.
Since his final eight defeat at the All England Club, Federer triumphed in twenty nine of thirty three clashes during seven competitions, advancing into five title battles on the tour. After a semi final loss in the United States Open in New York, he made
his way into the final of the Shanghai Rolex Masters in China and captured his 64th and 65th crowns back-to-back in Stockholm and Basel prior to his final four exit in Bercy.
The right hander who made his debut on the ATP tour back in 1998 put together a match packed hard court six weeks that started in China and ended with an undefeated appearance in London. Federer seemed as quick as fluid in getting past Novak and Rafa in
the final competition as he had in his opening victories over Soderling and Djokovic in China.
A lot of hard work, determination and patience to listen to the criticism made the Fed Express once again, a major threat to beat at the year’s opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open in 2011.
Prior to his participation in Melbourne, the Basel born will also play an exhibition match against Rafael Nadal for their respective charities.
If he continues to remain fit and play strongly on the tour, his declared aspiration for that top spot seems to be a very good bet in deed.
2. Rafael Nadal with power raking points of 1,085
Last Four competitions; Barclays World Tour Finals, Shanghai Rolex Masters, Tokyo and Bangkok
Current ATP ranking; Number One
The Spaniard tennis ace, Rafael Nadal, ended the season 2010 with seven more titles to his name out of nine final appearances on the tour. Most importantly, the 24-year-old Rafa won three out of four Grand Slam tournaments this season namely, Wimbledon,
French Open as well as the United States Open in New York. He concluded with a win loss mark of 71-10 on the year.
The Manacor native also registered his name as the youngest player in the open era to complete a career Grand Slam on the tour. He also surpassed Agassi’s mark of Master crowns with his eighteenth Masters title in Madrid. The left hander won the French Open
without even dropping a single set whereas missed only one at Flushing Meadows.
World number one, Nadal, definitely ends the 2010 season in better shape and form than he has ended any other year in the past. The reigning United States Open champion has huge points to defend in 2011.
