ATP Power Rankings, Top ten players on the tour (Part III)
Here is the third and the last part of the top ten contenders on the ATP World tour in terms of their power ranking points.
8. Gael Monfils with power ranking points of 256
After a quarterfinal appearance at the Flushing Meadows in the city of New York, the world number fifteen Monfils assisted his country to reach the final of the Davis Cup with a victory over David Nalbandian.
The right-hander has had an injury-plagued year, suffered from a hand injury for nearly two months followed by an ankle injury back in July. However, Monfils did post some decent results after his recovery including his title battle run at Tokyo.
With his great athleticism, it is hard to believe that the talented tennis player from France has just two singles trophies to his name. He has a total of six hundred points to defend in Paris.
9. Jurgen Melzer with power ranking points of 248
This season turned out to be career best for the twenty-nine year old Jurgen who is currently ranked number twelve on the ATP World Tour. He successfully made his way into the semi final round of the Grand Slam tournament on the very first occasion at the French Open in Roland Garros. In addition, he captured the doubles crown at Wimbledon along with his partner Philipp Petzschner.
Jurgen had an impressive victory over the world number one Rafael Nadal in the round three at the Shanghai Rolex Masters in China. In spite of the fact that he was defeated by Juan Monaco in the singles quarter, he did well to grab the doubles crown, teamed up with Leander Paes. Jurgen has already qualified for the year ending finale in the doubles event and is now looking to grab his spot in the singles as well.
10. Mikhail Youzhny with power ranking points of 213
The former world number nine Youzhny started his Asian swing with a bang, capturing a title at Kuala Lumpur. However, he failed to continue his form and fell down in the opening round matches at the China Open and Shanghai as well.
He, currently ranks number ten in the South African Airways list and hopes to qualify for the elite eight-man field in London on the very first occasion in his career. Mikhail withdrew from Moscow two weeks ago because of his viral infection.
Other players for WTF
Tomas Berdych
The right hander Tomas is yet to go beyond the final-eight round in any championship ever since his title battle appearance at Wimbledon, falling in the opening round last week at Stockholm. However, ironically, he still managed to reach his career high ranking of world number six on the tour.
Andy Roddick
The American tennis sensation Andy Roddick withdrew from his round two clash versus Guillermo Garcia-Lopez at the Shanghai Rolex Masters in China because of his abductor muscle strain.
He is also hoping to grab one of the three remaining spots for the year ending finale. The American posted his best result of the season by making his way into the quarterfinal round at the year’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open in Melbourne and definitely has a lot to prove in terms of Grand Slam tournaments in 2011.
Fernando Verdasco
With a final-eight showing at the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York, Fernando was looking in good shape prior to the start of the Asian swing to make it into the London finale. However, a winless Asian campaign saw him drop outside the season-to-date top-eight.
