ATP Power Rankings; Soderling the new favourite to win the London title
The Swedish tennis star Robin Soderling, whose total tennis repertoire stole the show at the BNP Paribas Masters Men’s singles tournament in Bercy, tops the new Power Rankings on the very first occasion in his career.
His 2010 indoor year proved to be the best of his professional life, finishing with his maiden ATP Master’s 1000 victory.
He along with a couple of top contenders in the world, battled hard throughout the season in order to successfully make their way into the season finale at the Barclays ATP World Tour in London.
As the culminating competition of a very lengthy season in tennis, a total of eight top ranked players on the ATP tour in 2010 will start play at the season finale on Sunday.
The top eight who are included in the elite eight man field include Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych, David Ferrer, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick.
The burning question now is that who will capture the World Tour Finals in London? A lot will off course depend on the draw. However, with the top eight doing combat, every single player will be highly interesting to watch.
Bettor.com, therefore, takes a look at the top two players in terms of power ranking points who also have the brightest chances to win the crown in the elite eight man field in London.
1. Robin Soderling with power ranking points of
1,137
Not only did the Swede capture his first Master’s 1000 crown in Paris last Sunday, in the process, he also achieved his new career high ranking of number four in the world. Seizing the BNP Paribas Masters in Bercy, however, was
not that easy for the Swede as he had to get past Andy Roddick from the United States of America in the quarterfinal round which was a tough fought battle.
Then, the former world number five played highly impressive tennis to cruise past the red hot Michael Llodra in the semifinal match in Bercy. He met another French player in the title battle, Gael Monfils, who made his way into
the final after getting the better of world number two Roger Federer in the final four round. Soderling however did well to topple his opponent and thus lifted his first Master 1000 crown on the tour.
Considering his current form, the professional tennis ace from Sweden, Robin Soderling, will definitely go deep in the tournament and may end up winning the title in London.
2. Roger Federer with power ranking points of 793
The Swiss tennis maestro enjoyed a tremendous indoor year, grabbing two crowns in Stockholm and Basel, to the delight of his millions of fans. His defeat at the hands of Gael Monfils in the semi final round in Bercy however ended
his match winning streak on the tour.
The 29-year-old Federer with five match points on his racket could not deliver the goods again. After taking a lead of 4-1 in the third and decisive set, everyone watching the match predicted a Federer-Soderling final at the BNP
Paribas Masters.
However, ironically, Gaels bounced back in a poor service game by the sixteen time Grand Slam winner, at last forcing another tiebreak. When Roger fell behind, Monfils further improved his game and held on to beat the Swiss on
the very first occasion in his career.
Anyhow, despite his semi final loss in Paris, the Swiss superstar has overall played extremely well during the indoor season and there is no reason to predict his stellar play will end in London.
