ATP Power ranking points; Roger Federer tops Rafael Nadal and others in 2010 – Part two
Here is the second part explaining the top ten players on the ATP tour in terms of their power ranking points;
3. Andy Murray with power ranking points of 614
Last Four championships; Barclays World Tour Finals, Paris, Valencia, Shanghai
Current ATP ranking; number four
The first clash of the season finale in London could not have been a better one for the Scottish fans as Andy Murray aimed to become their man.
The current world number four who was dressed in black met then world number four Robin Soderling of Sweden who was coming off his first Master 1000 crown in Paris.
It was immediately clear that the 23-year-old Murray was on a mission and Robin was caught on the back foot. Murray broke on two occasions in the opening set, diminishing the Robin attack with cross-court drives and drops on the court.
The following set was closer, however, never appeared like reversing the result. The Scott, in the end emerged victorious in his opening round robin clash in London.
Murray was bundled out of the prestigious event at the hands of world number one Rafael Nadal in the semi final round. It, however, took more than three hours for Nadal to get past the Scott who was not ready to give up at any stage of the match.
Overall, it has been quite a decent season for Andy Murray who started his 2010 campaign with a runner-up performance at the Australian Open in Melbourne. His final defeat at the hands of Swiss tennis maestro Roger Federer in Australia hit his confidence,
however, after suffering some early round exits in Miami and Monte Carlo, Murray came back strongly on the tour. He avenged his loss by getting the better of Roger Federer in both Toronto and Shanghai and triumphed in the latter for the loss of only twenty
five games in five clashes.
The Scott is likely to announce his decision of new coach at the beginning of 2011. The right hander is also scheduled to take part in the Hopman Cup which serves as a warm up to the Australian Open. His goal, though, will be to go one better in Melbourne.
A highly determined Andy might just end up doing so!
4. Novak Djokovic with power ranking points of 556
Last Four Tournaments: Barclays World Tour Finals, Paris, Basel, Shanghai
Current ATP ranking; Number four
Novak’s first clash in the season ending tournament was a replica of his final four versus Tomas Berdych at the grass court Grand Slam event earlier in 2010.
Since losing that clash, however, Novak had compiled a mark of 26-6 on the tour versus Berdych with 8-12, and the right hander blasted the ground running at the O2. Indeed, the Serbian tennis sensation looked as if he was in a rush to the weekend, exhibiting
almost perfect tennis, right up to the ninth game versus Rafa in his second round clash. The Spaniard, however in the end won the match against Djokovic, who was suffering some problems due to his contact lenses on the court.
In his last round robin match, the Serbian met Andy Roddick and once again played superbly to set up a semi final clash with the Swiss tennis maestro, Roger Federer.
What Djokovic could not have predicted was the form that Roger brought to their battle. The Serbian after losing in straight sets to the Swiss put it honestly by saying, “I did not have a chance.”
World number three however, has a chance for more trophies and the next year’s Australian Open might be his best prospect. He ended the season after reaching the quarters or better in all four Grand Slam tournaments on the very first occasion in his career,
with his best result coming in New York where he finished runner up to Rafael Nadal. He also reached number two in the South African Airways ranking list for the first time on the tour and captured two crowns out of four final appearances in 2010.
Most importantly, Djokovic also helped his country winning its maiden Davis Cup title, beating France in the finals last week at the Belgrade Arena in Serbia.
