ATP World Tour Finals 2010: Doubles Match Preview - Zimonjic/Nestor versus Kubot/Marach
The second seed tandem of Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor will play the first doubles match of the day against Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach at the 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London on Friday. Daniel and Nenad, who have already made their way
into the semi final round in the season finale, have triumphed in their previous three clashes in straight sets on the tour.
The world number two team of Nestor and Nenad compiled another descent season and stands at 6-4 in the finals in 2010.
The tandem started their year campaign back in January where they grabbed a crown in Sydney after getting the better of Hutchins-Kerr in the finals in straight sets, followed by a finalist run at the season’s opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open in Melbourne
where they were defeated by Bryan Brothers. It was Daniel’s fourth overall title battle. A month later, Nestor along with his partner Nenad, did well to win their first title of the season in Rotterdam after thrashing out Aspelin-Hanley in the title battle.
Currently ranked number two in the South African Airways ATP Doubles list, Nestor and Nenad continued their impressive form in Indian Wells and successfully made their way into the finals where the pair was eventually toppled by Marc Lopez-Nadal in straight
sets.
During European clay-court swing, both of them won a total of two titles in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona apart from their runner up appearance at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Madrid before losing to Bryan Brothers.
At the clay court French Open tournament in Roland Garros, the tandem did well to brush aside the defending champions Dlouhy-Paes in the finals. By virtue of this victory, Nestor and Nenad also improved their ranking to number one in the world. It was their
third major crown as a pair.
After reaching the pinnacle of rankings, the duo however couldn’t continue their form on grass and thus couldn’t go beyond the semi final stage at Queen’s Club which was followed by a second round exit at the grass court Grand Slam tournament in London.
During the North American summer hard-court swing, the second seed pair played their first competition in Toronto where they were bundled out of the event in the final eight round, followed by another quarter final exit in New Heaven. At the United States
Open in New York, Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor couldn’t go beyond the third round.
The duo once again returned to action with a semi final appearance in Beijing and a quarter final showing in Shanghai. Few days later, they also ended the crown drought by winning a title in Vienna, dispatching off Fyrstenberg-Matkowski in the finals in
straight sets.
Kubot and Marach, on the other hand, qualified for the season finale ATP World Tour Finals on the second occasion in a row. The Polish-Austrian pair jumped off to a career-best 14-3 start in opening two months of the season, making their way into three finals
in a row during the Latin American clay court swing.
They captured their first crown of the season in Santiago after brushing aside Starace-Zeballos in the finals in straight sets. Kubot along with his partner Marach did not win back to back clashes again until May in Rome where they advanced into the semi
finals before losing to Bryan Brothers.
Their other 2010 highlights include semi final appearances in Cincinnati,  ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Shanghai, runner up efforts in Valencia, Costa do Sauipe and quarter final runs in Roland Garros and United States Open in New York.
