ATP World Tour Finals: Federer annihilates Nadal to clinch title

Former world number one Roger Federer proved to be the man who still has a lot of tennis left after he thrashed Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the championship final of the 2010 ATP World Tour Finals.
Federer initiated the match with a 6-3 win, shortly after which Nadal responded with a 6-3 win in the second set. The deciding third set nevertheless went in favour of Roger as he took it 6-1, to clinch the title.

Reflecting on his performance after the match Federer said, “I’m really happy the way I stayed positive throughout the match today. I thought it was clearly a very high level. I don’t know if I could have played any better, so I’m really pleased.”

He also said that both the players have a huge amount of respect for each other and he admired Nadal’s game. He added that the match had some great rallies which were magnificent.
Federer won 92% of the points played on his first serve and only lost a mere 13 points on serve throughout the match. Additionally, ranked no. 1 in the World, Nadal managed to break his competitor once during the match however but he seemed to have been
wearing out as the match progressed.

Furthermore, Roger collected his 66th overall title and fifth title of the year to finish the season. Under the coaching of Paul Annacone, he has won 21 of the 23 matches played so far.
After defeating Britain's Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and most importantly Rafael Nadal, Federer's level of confidence will get the boost it requires to put him in a good contention for the 2011 Australian Open in January.
