The seventh seed pair of Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner secured a three set win over the third seed duo of Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy in their second round robin clash of the 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals on Tuesday. The final match score
was 7-6, 4-6 and 10-8.
Both the teams had their opportunities however it was Melzer and Petzschner who did well to handle pressure during the nerve-wracking moments of the super tie-breaker and emerged winners in the end. The clash concluded in a time period of one hour and forty
four minutes.
Melzer and Philipp blasted three aces and won 84% points on their first serve to get past their third seed foes.
They took the first set in a stiff tie-breaker at 7-6 (9) versus Paes and Lukas. The seventh seed pair got the break during the fourth game of the opening set and raced to a lead of 3-1, however Lukas and Paes bounced back during the ninth game and held
on to their serve to level the score line at 5-5 each.
The set at last reached the tie-breaker, where both the teams exhibited wonderful display of tennis and finally Jurgen and Petzschner won it in fifty two minutes. A total of four double faults committed by Lukas and Paes made the difference and proved to
be the turning point.
In the second set, the third seed pair of Lukas and Paes did well to improve their game and as a result won it 6-4 to take the match into a decisive tie breaker.
Seeded number seven to win the title, Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner had no serious troubles in the decisive set and won it 10-8 to make their way into the next round in London.
