ATP World Tour uncovered: The rise of Novak Djokovic – Tennis Special
The Rogers Cup, Montreal, Novak Djokovic’s first ATP World Tour appearance since winning Wimbledon and becoming world No.1. To mark his breakthrough, fans and players gathered on Centre court for a very special presentation.
The Serbian received the ATP world Number One trophy to recognize his rise and rise. Going into Montreal Djokovic had won 48 of his 49 matches so far this year. “It was a privilege for me to be there for Novak and take some part
in recognizing his incredible achievements this year. The depth of talent is at an all time high and we have great Champions that makes Novak’s accomplishments all the more remarkable. He is truly deserving world Number one” said the ATP Executive Chairman,
Adam Helfant.
Not just a tennis story, this had been one of the biggest stories in the world of sports this year. Having an unreal beginning of the year, the Serbian had a great season all along. Winning two grand slams and losing just one
match was surely a tale of a true sportsman.
Expressing his sentiments for compatriot, Tipsarevic, Serbian world No.14, congratulated Djokovic on his epic run this year. “I’m feeling really happy that I am a part of his tennis success. It’s nice to have a guy like Novak as
a part of your life.” said Tipsarevic.
Seeing him there doing everything right from a first row seat, sometimes it just pushes younger or lower level players to be better. Managing to do what Djokovic has done in this tennis era is sometime done once in two or three
decades because having Nadal and Federer so dominant over the last couple of years, the Serbian was just better than them this year. Critics say that Federer is now old and Nadal was kind of injured, however, that is not the case.
One defeat all year, it’s been a historic season for the Serb. However, Novak insists there is no one magic ingredient for his success, preferring instead to single out the group effort behind the scenes. Keeping this simple, have
a daily routine, practice hard and being surrounded by people who help him keeping his feet on the ground and directing his focus towards what needs to be done is what is required to pull off a year whole win for Djokovic.
This is a very special time to achieve greatness. Men’s tennis has never been stronger and the big three are acutely aware of each other’s ability. Working hard, these three top ranked players have certainly casted an overwhelmingly
positive image for tennis. Though these three had incredibly intense rivalries still managed to be civil to each other.
Djokovic, on the other hand, has no intention of resting on laurels. There is still much to play for this season as the Barclays ATP world Tour is up in front. Hoping to continue his great run this year on hard courts, “I want
to keep winning and that is what motivates me every time I go to the tennis court” says the World No.1.
