Question:

ATT U-Verse technical question: Can we use drop amplifiers?

ATT U-Verse technical question: The U-Verse is connected from the company's cable wire to (into the home) ATT's diplexer and then to a splitter (3 way) before the signal reaches our HDTV, but the HD picture appears to be slightly degraded as compared to our previous cable service, possibly due to signal loss in the splitter. Is it okay if I replace the splitter with an Electroline +3db gain per port active return drop amplifier to increase the signal strength to the HD? This is the same device I used for the cable service which delivered a great picture.

  1. You can use a drop amp between your UVerse Set Top Box and your TV.

Putting an amp between your UVerse Gateway and your Set Top Box will not help.  And will probably cause problems.

Keep in mind that between your Set Top Box and your Gateway UVerse uses an totally digital IP stream.    If you are experiencing loss of signal between your Gateway and Set Top Box, you would need another option beyond an analog amp.  (If you could find one, I suppose you could get a digital hpna repeater, or something like that...  Or if you up to it...pull a cat 5 ethernet connection between your gateway and your Set Top Box...)

(Also, be sure to check your aspect ratio setting on your set top box... Make sure you are not using wide screen SD or something.)

    Good Luck!
