  1. I think that homeschooling through high school has so many advantages.  Personally, I think the whole issue of "socialization" is a real non-issue.  Socializing means getting on with others - all ages.  A classroom situation, with 30 peers all the same age for years, will never be repeated in real life. You can easily find a social group outside an artificial "school" setting.

I also think that homeschooling through high school means that the student can explore so many more of his/her hobbies and interests.

Also, the home school high school student has so much more time to pursue on-line courses.  Why not begin a degree on-line - if you know what you want to do?  My eldest 2 boys have both enjoyed on-line tertiary learning, while completing high school at home. (16, 17)

They also have the ability to work part-time, or create their own business.

Most importantly, their learning can be real and genuine and more focused according to their interests.  Ever thought of building a profitable web business? - or developing your skill set through courses?, selling a product? ...This is a great time to do it.

  2. i know somebody who's home schooling. I don't think its a good thing because your social life will suffer? Regular schools are not just for education but you can also learn some good (and bad im afraid) things there aside from what the teachers teach you

  3. yes i did, thats why I went back again my senior year.

  4. I went 2 weeks of High School (public) before leaving and going to home school.

This was back in the 80's, when schools threatened to send your parents to jail!

No, I don't regret it .. in fact all the stories you hear of lack of social life, no communication skills and all the other things that people guess on .. Well .. they are ALL WRONG!

I went to college and graduated with a 4.0.

Yes, I do think Home School helped with the college grades too.

Social life was fine .. I traveled the US with parents when they had time and seen much of the US first hand as well as books.

I now home school my kids ... I think it is the best opportunity one can get and if your parents can swing the time and commitment, it is well worth the outcome.

    Good luck!

  5. I switched to it three months into freshmen year. I'm in 11th now and already graduating. Not to mention I got tons more social time because homeschooling is a lot more relaxed and laid back so you don't have someone regulating when and with whom who you socialize. I get to do a lot of interesting things too. Lots of field trips, and extracurricular activities (more than I'd ever have time for in public school) and social events and volunteering. Not to mention actually taking classes I WANT to take, as well as making the ones I need to take more fun. And the whole not getting into college thing? It's b.s. Most colleges PREFER homeschoolers and actively recruit them, even have seperate requirements and admissions officers for them. I'm on my way to UF. Go gators!

Never once regretted it. Never will.

  6. We're homeschooling our 9th and 10th graders this year, and possibly next year as well.  We did some major international travelling in September and wanted to bring them with us.  We began homeschool in August to help make up the time.

Our 10th grader has a few regrets because he enjoyed team sports and misses seeing his friends every day.  We help him out by hosting get togethers and paintball parties.  Doesn't help 100%, but it's better.   Our 9th grader has no regrets and is flying through his coursework.

Talk to your folks about your feelings; they might not understand what areas of standardized high school you feel you're missing out on.  There may be alternative opportunities that will help fill that emotional gap.  They might not even know you're regretting your decision.  Homeschool has unique rewards and you can potentially finish much faster!

  7. No, I don't regret it.  I learn as fast or as slow as I want.  I don't have to worry about getting so much work and getting enough sleep anymore.  I also work full time and usually get my school work done in about 2 hours instead of having to go to school for 7-8 hours and only getting about 2-3 hours of work done.
