  1. I have a 7 year-old son with autism. He was 3 when we had him diagnosed. I was very upset and worried for him. I kept thinking of how hard his life is going to be. I was also wondering what I did wrong. I actually cried a lot. I went through a sad couple of months but I then realized that he is a generally good and happy boy.  He understands quite a bit, he has a hard time communicating vocally but he points and uses sign language to let us know what he wants. Our school district has a great autism  program and he goes to school with kids with similar needs like his own. He loves going to school, he stands in front of the window and waits for the bus. I know with time things will get better. We will get there eventually, it's just at a lot slower pace.
