I am having a problem with my tub faucets. My hot water faucet stem is stripped and needs to be replaced. went to the local Home Depot and got the kit to replace both hot and cold. well as my pipes are old i guess, when took the seat out of the faucet, it turn out the part of the pipe that has the grooves to s***w the new seat in is decade and broke of partially. i was able to successfully do the cold water, but I cannot s***w in the seat on the hot water cause there are no grooves to catch it to hold it in place, when i put the faucet stem on for the hot water and turn on the water from the main water switch outside, it is as if the hot water is on and its pouring out of the spout. is there anything I can do to "mickey mouse" this as they would say, for a quick fix. My land lord is going to kill me.. I am scared they are going to have to tear out the tile to replace that pipe..HHEELLLPPPPP!!!!!

  1. you might be able to fix it with some rubber/plastic hose and hose clamps.

Or maybe a coupler from home depot. best thing may be if you can get whats called a die (tap and die) to make some new threads on the pipe from home depot too,

  2. Sometimes in life it is time to own up to a problem and now is the time to walk the walk. You are in over your head on this project and need to CALL THE LANDLORD. Tell what happened. Go on with your life.

  3. If you have the reg. steel pipe coming out of the wall you can s***w it out and replace it, but if it's copper pipe then they may have to cut the back wall out to get to the pipe.Look and see whats on the back side of you bath room wall where the pipe is coming from , is the room behind the bath room wall a bed room or a closet , they may have a cut door on th backside wall so you can get to the pipe.

  4. It sounds to me like you may need to replace the faucet.  You did not say what is on the back side of the wall that the tub/shower faucet is on. Usually a new valve assembly for the faucet can be installed from the backside of the tub wall which if it is inside a closet may even have an access panel.  However, this may require sweating pipes together unless everything is put together with unions and you buy the exact same faucet to replace it.

If this is too much for you to do, either find a friend or call a plumber or simply explain to your landlord what happened. The landlord may not be all that upset if the faucet has been in there for years. Things don't last forever and chances are he has his own handyman or can do the job himself.

  5. you need to re thread the pipe or replace the nipple.  you can also try putting teflon tape and pipe seal on the existing treads but re threading would be better

  6. if part of the faucet seat is still lodged in the valve body, sometimes you can use an "easy-out" to remove it or use a seat wrench.

jamb the seat wrench in and hope it grabs the remainder of the seat to remove it.

WHY DID YOU ATTEMPT THIS WHEN YOU ARE RENTING?!?!?!
