ATV VIN NUMBERS? IS there more than one?

I had a atv stolen and the police recovered it and now they say i cant get it out of impound because the vin number was scratched of of the frame! Is there more than one VIN # ? or is there another way to identify the bike such as a engine number that matches with the vin? of do they put the vin in a hard place so its not easy to find? my atv is a suzuki 250 quad i believe its a 04.........please help

Suzuki usually puts the VIN # for their quads on the horizontal frame bar beneath the rear left - side fender.

Perhaps the authorities don't know this.

Ask if you can look at the quad in person and check if the VIN # is actually missing.

The Vin # and engine # are completely different.

Maybe if you contacted Suzuki direct and told them the VIN #, they might have records as to what the engine # is for that quad (unlikely though).

Ask a Suzuki dealer to help (to look the info up themselves or give you the phone number for Suzuki costumer relations).

There should be a vin # on the right side of the motor above the clutch Assembly at least that's is were mine is. It should be the same as your vin # on the frame. If you are able to get your bike back, next time you change the clutch plates on the inside of the clutch cover inscribe a id marking such as your name.

If it is all original,,,there is an engine # to match the frame #,,,they may be different but it should be on the registration,,if neither can be identified you still could have a chance of getting it back if you have proof of puchase (notarized), or even better if you have a registration to identify the bike,,, They may require to keep it for a period of time to see if anyone else disputes ownership,,,,if you have no descriptive proof of ownership you are S.O.L.,,,,,,,,,,,,Good Luck
