  1. As an Electrician, it may be worth starting in South Australia, as it is easier to get a full Electricians licence there, and then you can swap it to another State late.

To work in certain electrical trades in Australia you must register and/or have a license from the relevant State or Territory electrical registration and licensing authority. Licenses are issued in various grades which define the work you can do.

A separate license is required in each State and Territory in which you may wish to work. However, there are arrangements for the mutual recognition of interstate licenses which facilitate the issue of similar licenses in different States and Territories.

To obtain a license to perform the full range of electrical work without supervision, you must pass a test in the Australian electrical wiring rules. Working under supervision in Australia will help you learn the rules.

You can apply for your Australian Recognised Trade Certificates (ARTC) whilst in the UK, using distance learning, which will save time once you arrive in Australia.

For an "actual example of -  How to get an Electrical Licence in Queensland" look at: http://www.britzinoz.com/info/electrical...

It is a timescale of a Migrant in a similar situation to you.

Good luck, the application may be hard, but it is worth it in the end.

  2. If you only want to come for a year, you may be able to come on working holiday visas (subclass 417), but they are only available to people from some countries i.e. Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan and United Kingdom.

If you're not from one of those, there are also work and holiday visas (subclass 462) for young people from Chile, Thailand, Turkey and the USA.

Both are 12 month visas that allow you to work in any type of job for a maximum of 6 months with any one employer. They are far easier (and cheaper) to get than immigrant visas.

See: http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-... for all information including costs and how to apply.
