Hello everyone!

I need some advice...

I am looking for a AV Receiver with HDMI sound and video along with iPod input that will not break the bank. I have been bidding on a Harman Kardon AVR 146 on eBay but now I am being told that the HDMI input will only provide me with video and not sound.

Can anyone help?

  1. There is a JVC model i saw on cnet and i think it did hdmi audio and video.  Jvc is not a good brand normally but c-net gave it good reviews so maybe its ok.  Other than that unless you get used you are going to have to spend $500-$600 at least the last i checked.  ALOT of recievers have hdmi just as a video pass-thru but dont do the audio from it only the mid to high end ones do.

  2. Dang, Harmon Kardon is a good Amp....a little more pricey than DENON, but still worth it....

The HDMI connections usually aren't a source of DOLBY as much as the Optical outputs are....

I suspect that's why HK decided to only use it for video.....

But they still have the OPTICAL OUTPUTS to use for audio....

My Denon has the SAME situation as yours does....

I really doubt you'll find audio processing on the HDMI jacks, since they are MORE DEDICATED to just providing Video to your TV set.....

But maybe next year or so....

  3. Check out Onkyo.  I just bought an tx-sr805 and I love it.  Great sound and all HDMI hookups.   Checkout Circuit City they carry them.  Look at the 5 series.  They are a great receiver and priced very competatively. I got mine at a local dealer for cheaper than at Circuit City.
