Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has rushed to the defence of star player http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 and insists that he does not dive and has been harshly treated in recent weeks.
The Welshman has developed somewhat of a reputation for simulation, and has received two yellow cards in recent weeks for diving. The manager believes that his player has only been protecting himself, and never goes does looking for a foul.
Bale received two yellow cards in the last two games. The winger was booked in this weekend’s 3-0 win over Fulham, and considering his tendency to go down easily, the player is often booked even when there has been contact.
Earlier last month, the player was cautioned in the 2-1 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Foy after there had been
a coming together with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steve-Sidwell-c34181.
Villas-Boas was frustrated by the treatment his player has received recently, and insists that he has been portrayed in a bad light by the media. The Portuguese insisted that his player is not a diver, and was merely protecting himself. Speaking to reporters
after the Fulham game, he said:
“Gareth is so fast so it is very difficult for referees to judge situations. He has suffered big, big injuries to his ankles before and sometimes he wants to protect himself a little bit.”
“He might put his body in situations that the referee thinks he is diving and he is suffering for it in these last two games. He is now very near suspension for two unfair yellow cards and I think you gain a reputation for being a diver unfairly sometimes.
This player has suffered a lot in his career.”
Fulham manager Martin Jol also defended the Tottenham player, and shared Villas-Boas’ point of view. Teammate and striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 also defended Bale and said:
“I’m not being biased but I think it was a bit harsh to book him."
Tottenham are currently on a hat-trick of victories after suffering three consecutive losses, and lie in 4th place with 26 points to their name.
