Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has stated that star midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 will leave White Hart Lane for the right price and has warned possible suitors that they must pay the full asking price for the Croatian playmaker.
Modric has been one of Tottenham’s key players over the past few seasons, and the midfielder has long been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane. The Croatian has publicly stated his desire to leave the club in search of a new challenge and Champions
League football.
Tottenham have failed to qualify for the European tournament for two seasons running, and with the departure of former manager Harry Redknapp, Modric’s departure looked even more imminent.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 had been interested in the player for quite some time, but both their offers had been rejected by Tottenham as they looked resolute in holding on to Modric.
Now, the likes of Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have entered the fray, with the latter the most likely of clubs to land the Croatian.
Manager Villas-Boas had previously admitted to losing Modric, stating that life at White Hart Lane will go on without the playmaker.
Villas-Boas had indentified Porto’s Joao Moutinho as a possible replacement for the Croatian, stating that both players had similar qualities and that Moutinho would fit right in.
The Moutinho deal however hit a snag as Tottenham have been unable to match Porto’s asking price. Villas-Boas however insists that they will be able to sign a player in the coming weeks, saying that he will re-enter the transfer market once he has established
what areas of the squad need strengthening.
Talking about Modric, Villas-Boas said:
"There has been continuous interest from three different clubs. But it's important for Tottenham to hold onto their rights. His situation will continue as it is until the price is right."
English media suggests that Tottenham are looking at a possible price of £35 million for the midfielder, and Villas-Boas has said that Modric is aware of his price-tag.
"It's important to understand his feelings. We have been speaking and I understand his point and he understands the club's point.”
"Luka is an intelligent person and understands the club has to defend his value their values, rights and interests. It's a difficult situation for the club but we have been co-operative by openly saying we are willing to listen to offers.”
