Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas believes that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 will be a massive loss for England following the defender’s announcement of retiring from international football.
The former Chelsea boss sang the player’s praises, and insists that Terry remains one of the best centre-backs in England. While in charge of Chelsea, Villas-Boas may not have started Terry as often as the player would’ve liked, but there is no doubt that
the manager respects and admires him as a footballer.
Terry has been Chelsea captain since the 2004/2005 campaign, and has led his team to 3 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, 2 League Cups and most recently the prestigious Champions League trophy.
The player’s career has not been without controversy, as he was recently involved in a racial allegation against him by Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anton-Ferdinand-c6260.
Terry was punished with a 4 game ban after he was found guilty of the behaviour, and is set to miss out on this weekend’s match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429. The player also announced that he has retired from international football to focus more on Chelsea a few days
ago.
Villas-Boas maintains that the player is a ‘massive loss’ for England, and has left the England national team in a weakened state as they prepare for their World Cup qualifying campaign.
Incidentally, Villas-Boas was Chelsea manager when the infamous racial incident took place at Loftus Road. However, the manager chose to reserve his remarks on the situation, but spoke highly of the player and said that he will be missed by England manager
Roy Hodgson.
"JT's retirement is a massive, massive loss for England," stated Villas-Boas. "Terry is a player of unbelievable talent and he has done so much for his country and for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 too. In the end, the decision he has made is personal, but from the perspective
of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 squad and qualification for the World Cup, it leaves Hodgson in a difficult position looking towards qualification.”
"I am not questioning the quality of the players he has at his disposal, but he has lost a player of great, great talent."
Villas-Boas then went on to talk about the upcoming league fixture against former English champions Manchester United. The game will take place at Old Trafford tomorrow.
