Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that he will have to monitor and evaluate the mental state of want-away midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857, before deciding when he can return to train with the Tottenham first team and if he should stay
with the club or not.
The 26-year old midfielder has been linked with a move away from the White Hart Lane for the greater part of the last two years.
This is the third summer where his future lies uncertain. The player has been stuck in limbo and transit ever since he tried forcing a move away from the club, by failing to report for training and refusing to travel with the Spurs squad as they left for
their pre-season tour of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034, about two weeks ago.
The Croatian has since apologized for his actions, but was maybe a little too late. Chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy and manager Villas-Boas had both been angered by the player’s behaviour and the club had charged him with two fines, for his unprofessional conduct.
Modric has been linked to a number of big clubs. Recently, a deal to take the player to Spanish giants Real Madrid looked certain and imminent, up until Madrid refused to meet Tottenham’s £40 million valuation of the midfielder.
Villas-Boas will hold talks with the player to determine his state of mind in deciding if he should bring him back to the Spurs team or not. The manager expects Madrid to come close to their valuation of the player soon, but as of now, there have been no
improved offers from the Spanish outfit.
Speaking about the situation, Villas-Boas said:
“It’s difficult. Obviously he has to pick up on his fitness but we’re talking about a player with tremendous talent. In a way, the most important thing is to analyse his situation as it stands at the moment.”
“See how the player feels mentally to return and the fact that the club has not received any offers that are rated highly for the talent that he is. So I have to speak to the player and I think he will understand because he’s a good professional. Hopefully
we will get him back but if not we will continue to monitor his situation and improve on his fitness on an individual basis.”
