Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has criticised Charlie Adam for his ‘nasty’ challenge on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in Baltimore.
Both teams faced off in a scoreless draw on Saturday in what first appeared to be a friendly game, but quickly turned nasty after a challenge by Adam on Bale left the Welshman on crutches.
Bale could potentially miss the first three weeks of the Premier League campaign, following an injury to his ankle ligaments as a result of the tackle.
The 23-year old winger had spoken about the incident after the game, and labelled Adam as a coward and slammed him for being reckless. Bale termed the tackle as a calculated and deliberate attack and accused Adam of wanting to hurt him.
This is not the first time both players have been involved in such an incident. Back when Adam used to play for Blackpool, he had escaped a Football Association charge when he ruptured Bale’s ankle ligaments at the White Hart Lane in 2011. This incident
had left the Welshman out of action for three months, and this time, the player is understandably furious and frustrated.
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is also not happy with Adam’s tackle on his player.
Speaking to various newspapers after the Liverpool game, he said: “I think it was a very nasty challenge from Charlie. The player had gone and he came in from behind on Gareth's ankle. I did not know the previous history between the two. I do now.”
"It is a difficult one to be fair. You do not want to end up in a game with Liverpool with 10 men. At half-time Charlie came to me and said something about the challenge. I can accept that but I think he should go to the player to say sorry.''
However, Gareth Bale may not be ready to accept an apology by Adam just yet. The player had the following to say regarding the matter:
"When someone makes a very bad tackle on you in a game you expect him to come up and apologise. But I've had no apology from him and I don't really want one to be honest.”
