Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has informed Croatian midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 that he needs to get his act sorted before he links up with the rest of the Spurs squad, when they return from their pre-season tour.
The manager warned his want-away midfielder that he needs to get his ‘head straight’ before he can be included in the squad, for the final pre-season training camp.
The coveted midfielder was expected to finally leave White Hart Lane this summer, but so far, a move to take him away has failed to materialize.
Modric has been the subject of much transfer speculation; the player has been linked with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 for two seasons, and is now connected with a move to Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.
It’s no surprise the player wants to leave the North London Club, especially after Tottenham failed to qualify for the Champions League for the second time running.
The clubs interested in Modric offer Champions League football, and a chance of winning trophies, something the midfielder has been unable to do with his current club.
Modric had not travelled with the Spurs squad as they left for their pre-season tour of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034 last month. The 26-year old had initially failed to report for training and refuse to travel with the squad as he tried to force a move away from the
club.
The Croatian soon apologised for his behaviour, but was still fined by the club for his actions and was left in London at Tottenham’s training facilities to train with the reserves.
Speaking to the media, Villas-Boas spoke about Modric’s mental focus and ability to train with the rest of the squad.
He said: "Luka is doing double sessions on his own in London. When we get back to London I will give some of the players some time off and when we return to sessions we will decide what is best for Luka to do.”
"He is a Tottenham player obviously, but he has to be in good mental condition to return to our training because his colleagues are one level up in terms of preparation and fitness.”
"So we will have to setup a program for him that gradually brings him up to the team, that gradually brings him to fitness level - and then see what happens.”
