Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has said that he is not concerned with defender Michael Dawson’s future with the club, and insists that he will be happy with whatever the player decides on.
Dawson was named captain by Villas-Boas in the summer break, following Ledley King’s retirement from professional football.
However, it came as a surprise when the player was linked with a move away from White Hart Lane yesterday. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314, with reports suggesting that Villas-Boas himself was keen
on offloading the player.
Tottenham currently have five central defenders in the squad; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814. It is understood that the manager wants to add two more players before the transfer window shuts
down, and is therefore trying to make room in the squad for new arrivals.
QPR had apparently lodged a bid for the English central defender yesterday and a deal was reported to have been agreed around the £5.5million-£10 million region. Now, it is believed that the deal has hit a snag, and the player’s future lies in the balance.
If Dawson stays, he will be the fifth choice centre-back, and Villas-Boas insists that he has no problem with the player staying put as long as Dawson is okay with his first team prospects.
Speaking about the situation, the manager said that he will welcome the defender’s presence in the squad. He said:
“I had an open chat with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261; I explained we have five central defenders here. But he’s a great professional and if he is still here at the end of the transfer window it will be a privilege for me.”
“His human qualities are highly appreciated by us and the football club. His skills as a footballer are second to none so we appreciate them as well.”
“If we end up with a scenario with five central defenders there is more competition and there might be less opportunities. That's why we are willing to consider different options and we have allowed the player to speak to QPR."
