AVC announces schedule of 16th Asian Sr. Men's Volleyball Championship
The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) has recently announced the schedule of the 16th Men’s Senior Volleyball Championship. The biennial event for men’s teams from Asian countries will run from September 21 to 29 as the Iranian capital city
Tehran will host the tournament. A total of sixteen teams will join the competition, which will play in four pools.

Pool A – Iran, India, Chinese Taipei, and Afghanistan Pool B – China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan Pool C – Japan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and Thailand Pool D – South Korea, Australia, Turkmenistan, and Qatar
The matches will be played at two venues in Tehran including Azadi Volleyball Hall and Azadi Indoor Stadium. The tournament is scheduled to be opened with the first preliminary round-robin, which will complete in three days. The opening round will end on
September 23 and it will be followed by a one-day break.
Afterwards, the classification matches will run for the next two days. The quarter and semi-finals will be held on September 27. The final ranking for the 16th AVC Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship will be revealed after the final matches on
28th and 29th of September.
Japan won the title in the previous edition of the championship, which was held in Manila, Philippines. The Japanese team faced off against Iran in the final showdown, while South Korea finished in third place in the 2009 Men’s Senior Volleyball Championship.
Team Japan is ahead of everyone in the medals’ race and have clinched a total of 13 medals, 7 Gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze, in previous championships.
South Korea has collected 14 medals in total but it has less number of gold-medals than Japan. The host country of the 2011 edition of Men’s Senior Volleyball Championship is still without any gold-medal. This year it is great chance for them to go for gold
as the advantage of home courts, familiar conditions and emotional support of fans will surely benefit them. There are two months left in the opening of the tournament, which gives every team a good time frame for preparations.
