AVC reveals schedule of 16th Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship – Volleyball news
Following the successful completion of drawing of lots, the Asian Volleyball Federation (AVC) has announced the schedule of 16th Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship on June 16. The tournament will be hosted by Chinese Taipei from September
15 to 23, 2011. A total of fourteen Women’s Senior Volleyball squads will join the competition. Teams will be divided into four pools and the pool composition is as follows:
Pool A – Chinese Taipei, Iran, and Indonesia Pool B – Thailand, Australia, and Vietnam Pool C – China, Kazakhstan, South Korea, and India Pool D – Japan, North Korea, Sri Lanka, and Turkmenistan
The participants of the 16th Asian Women’s Senior Volleyball Championship have been placed into different groups due to their different geographical locations.
The tournament will be opened with the first preliminary round, where teams in each pool will play a single round-robin for three days. The first leg of the tournament will run from September 15 to 19. The preliminary round will be followed by the quarter-final
stage after a one-day rest. Furthermore, the semi-final will be staged on September 22, while the event will come to end on September 23. The final day of the tournament will feature the most important match for the top position and classification matches
for the different other positions from third to eighth.
Thailand will be defending their title this year. China finished in the runner-up position in the previous edition of the championship and will be looking to win the title this year. Chinese Taipei will enjoy the benefits of the being the host of this prestigious
women’s volleyball campaign and take the home court advantage.
The 16th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship will also serve as the qualification tournament for the upcoming 2011 FIVB World Cup, 2012 FIVB Grand Prix and most essentially for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The successful teams will
get a chance to earn the playing-rights for the World Cup and Olympic Games. Since the drawing of lots has been publicized, the teams have a better chance to finalise their game plans.
Teams will be having their training camps soon. They have a two-month time period to get prepared for the tournament. It is to be seen who utilizes their time best and becomes the top spot of volleyball at 16th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball
Championship.
