  1. i manually installed 3 of the 4 available updates then used the program's main interface to do an update now AVG 8 works fine

  2. Problem solved, it is working now. I have just gone to update & the problem has been resolved.

I didn't do anything bar wait patiently for AVG to sort their prob out. So don't worry about uninstall/reinstalling & wasting download space etc. ;-P

  3. I have been working on fixing this problem on my network and found that the cause is the bin file is missing on the AVG server not the local machines.

    Download http://free.grisoft.com/softw/80free/upd...

This is part of the update that is causing the problem but not the part with a fault.  Open AVG and select: "Tools>Update from directory..." now select the directory where you saved the .bin file.  AVG will have already installed this file and report no updates found.

Your AVG will now no longer be displaying "missing .bin" because the last update it did worked.

  4. Thank all of you for posting! I just saw this a few hours ago and thanks to all of your answers/advice, I will just wait for AVG to fix things on their side....

I didn't know so many people used AVG, but I'm glad because it's just a great product.

    Anyway, thanks again.

  6. 1 - Start up AVG,click Update Now.

2 - The list of updates is shown in Popup, click on the more information link.A list of updates will be shown.

3 - Click on and save all updates in a file except the last one - http://downloadfree.avg.com/update/u7iav... - because this is causing the problem.

4 - Cancel the update and instead click on Tools > Update from Directory and go to the file where you saved the updates.Install these and AVG should be working properly again.

we cant complain though- its FREE! and please correct me if i'm wrong, but i havent had ANY viruses since i started using it a good 2 years ago now.

Lets just hope i dont get one now when im not protected :0

  10. I'm receiving the exact same message when trying to update AVG and thought it was because I messed something up updating my BIOS and chipset drivers. Glad you posted this as it shows it's either a Windows or AVG problem--so don't do anything to your system is my advice. Zone Alarm had an issue recently that made it think Windows was a virus, and it blocked internet access. Until Zone Alarm came out with a patch you had to set Zone Alarm security to medium. I'm just glad it's not my system. Thanks for posting your question and saving me the hassle of troubleshooting my system :)

  11. Hey just wanted to let everyone know that I had this problem to and I just updated again at 5:55 am Sun. Aug. 17th and The problem seems to be fixed... the update completed successfully and there was no more .bin file missing so I'm pretty sure its all good to go now

  12. Before I saw the previous answer I just downloaded the trial version of the full program and that doesn't have the problem. I'm sure it won't take AVG thirty days to fix the problem
