  1. I'm getting this too.

It's possibly a problem with the update package currently published by AVG.  The best thing might be to wait and see if they fix it their end.

  2. It's so good to see I'm not alone with this problem. It's seems the best advice is to wait it out. I also agree that AVG is the best freeware out there, but name calling is a little harsh. It's early in the morning guys. Chill out.

  3. I think it is related to the latest AVG update file as well. I also try uninstall, reinstall , repair and still have .bin missing message shown.

  4. I wasn't happy at all with AVG and switched to Avira Free Anti-virus.

This doesn't help with your problem, I know, but I thought I'd pitch in my two cents.

    Good luck.

  5. Just wait a day or so. AVG just probably messed up with their latest update. We're all getting it.

  6. I have also encountered this problem.  I assumed it was a problem on my end so I downloaded avgfree8 again, removed my running avgfree8 and then reinstalled the newly downloaded one.  It loaded, and then when I wanted to update it is still missing a bin file.

  7. a .bin file is a key component to any software and is required to be able to run certain aspects of the software. If it is missing, the easiest way to fix it would be to uninstall and reinstall AVG.

  8. Yep, same problem here. So glad it's not just me.

  9. There seems to be something wrong because i reinstall a new AVG and didnt help which was weird.

  10. AVG officially reply can be found here :

  11. yeah same thing

  12. can someone recommend another anti-virus, the best one there is aside from AVG?

  13. I'm getting the same error. I've downloaded a fresh version, done a repair and then tried to update and got the same error message. Tried to update on my laptop as well, same issue. I think it's a problem with the AVG database. I'm guessing the missing .bin file is within the latest library update and not with your AVG installation.

  14. I have the same problem and reinstalling did not work.  The AVG server is also down.

  15. I have the same problem, re-installing won't fix it, it's because the file is actually missing on the AVG update server.  This happens occasionally, just give it a couple of days and try updating again, AVG should fix it.

  16. I just noticed that I too was having this problem with AVG. It has worked perfectly since my installation 2 months ago so I agree with those that think it is a problem with the latest AVG update. I'm going to wait and see if they fix it and if not soon then I'll switch to another free antivirus program.

  17. i dont  know  how  i cant fix it

  18. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't work...just thought i'd add that

  19. in this case the bin file that AVG is referring to is the update file or u7iavi1616oo.bin to be specific. If you watch the AVG update progress bar you will see this bin file name flash by before the error appears. The update is the second one released on Aug 16, 08.

I went to the AVG download site and attempted to retrieve the file manually, assuming that my AVG install was to blame. If you click on the file, IAVI: / 1616 which is 25.3MB in size, a new page will come up saying file not found and you will see the bin file listed in the address bar.

This is a technical glitch on Grisoft's part and it will likely be repaired in short order. You are probably not in any danger without it. Try again in a few hours.

  20. Ive read a few boards, it seems to be AVG's problem. This must have happened with the latest update. If yo look at the time of everyone responses its all within the last hour or so.

This is the same for all of the other boards. My suggestion would be:

Every so often throughout the day, load AVG and use the update feature to manually update it. This way you don't have to wait until tomorrow to get the update if there is one released today.

Lastly, for the r****d whom is not using AVG. It actually would make sense if you spoke from experience. I'll bet one of your girlfriends heard from one of her friends who heard from a friend that knows someone who knows computers to download the anti-virus you have.

Speaking from experience (10 years) I can say without a doubt AVG free is the best anti-virus out there. I'm sure that you might use Norton's or Mcafee's and sit back in your chair and wonder why your computer is so slow?

Check your system resources and you'll notice that Norton and Mcafee and your New anti-virus are hogging about 80% of your systems resources CONSTANTLY!. About a decade ago Norton used to be the best thing out ever! Then a little thing called spy-ware came along, this is where Norton fails Miserably.

Also, considering the really nasty bug going around right now " Anti-virus XP 2008/2009 or also known as Anti-virus Vista 2008/2009. Avg is the ONLY! program I've been able to see to stop this thing dead.

I laugh at these customers when I go to there homes and they tell me they have paid 100 dollars or MORE! for Mcafee's full version and Norton full version or put on these stupid registry fixers and optimizers or "spysweeper an spyhunter"and all these other different types of anti-viruses (which are installed) but yet they call our company to come over and remove the fake scanner/desktop high-jacker known as Antivirus Xp 2008.

The funny thing is we did about 40 computers last week and 32 of them had anti-virus xp 2008 (which every single one of them had protection on there) and the 8 other people who didn't need their system reformatted guess what they were running?

AVG 8.0. I was out there for a hardware upgrade or questions about other software.

    "Thats just my two sense"

  21. I also received this message about a missing .bin file when trying to update. As I have not made any changes to any software since my last log on I assume it is an error with the AVG library file.

  22. Found this solution on the yahoo answers forum from member intc_escapee and it worked for me:

    1) go to »www.grisoft.com/ww.download-update

    2) make a directory on your desktop called AVG

    3) download AVI: 270.6.4,(right click and click "save target as" for both files)

    4) download IAVI: / 1616

    5) move the dowloaded files to the directory you made called AVG

    6) launch AVG

    7) select tools -> update from directory

    8) select the directory called AVG where you put the downloads

    That's it. Should be fixed.
