Question:

AVG VIRUS SCAN: When I run a AVG virus scan I get a couple of things...can you look at this real quick?

Under file I get:

Kernel32.dll

wsock32.dll

user32.dll

shell32.dll

ntoskrnl.exe

Under result/infection it says "change" for all of them.

Then under path it gives

C:/Windows\system32\shell32.dll for an example.

They all have the same path except the last part is different.

My question is, are those viruses? Are those bad? Normal?

Should I be worried about these results?

Anything you can help me with would be appreciated.

  1. For a start I would buy some anti-virus software such as Norton rather than using the free AVG, because I used to use that and my whole computer crashed completely. When I got it fixed, there were over 200 undiscovered viruses that had been there for a long time. It really did happen and I was advised to get rid of AVG as soon as possible!!

But these files seem to be ok, they are not viruses and are infact Windows files - so don't attempt to fix or change them!

but the ntoskrnl.exe I think is a virus.

Try downloading for free, Windows Defender form the microsft website or from the link below:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/product...

  2. Dont worry about them i got them too there nothing bad

BTW Just google the file name to find out what they are!

And dont listen to "Rebecca" above she is wrong!!

AVG is a better anti virus than Norton it has been proven by http://www.av-comparatives.org/

Also I would also recommend trying Avast! 4 home its free too http://avast.com/eng/download-avast-home...

  3. Its not a virus infection. Just a information. Those files are changed by a 3rd party program or via windows update.

For Example: In most cases it is changed when you are apply the new Customized windows themes.

Windows XP with Service Pack2 or later operating systems have the firewall.

  4. You have no need to worry.

This can be seen in the AVG forum below:

Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts Result Change and Status Changed

And their answer is.... it is Normal to see this

as it is just files moving about....so no problem.

  5. they are probably just minor viruses. nothing to serious. AVG is supposed to get rid of it. dont worry.

  6. What firewall are you using ? zonealarm - if yes thats the problem.
